Metal gone global

Any Heavy Metal fan will tell you that the genre is loved all over the globe despite it’s poor image in the West, but now a new documentary will lift the veil on how Metal is seen and performed in places across the globe that might take you by surprise.

The documentary Global Metal is from Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn of Banger Films Inc, who were the creators of the critically acclaimed, award winning documentary “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey” back in 2005.

The new film follows Sam on a new journey through Asia, South America and the Middle East.

You can read more about Global Metal at the film’s website http://www.globalmetalfilm.com/03/GM_03.html

Nightwish confirmed for Bloodstock open air!

Nightwish have been added to the line for this years Bloodstock festival at Catton Hall in Derby.

Source: http://www.bloodstock.uk.com/news/archives/126-NIGHTWISH-CONFIRMED-FOR-BLOODSTOCK-OPEN-AIR-2008!.html

The Full line up for the event can be found here http://www.bloodstock.uk.com/bands-line-up.php

I’d love to catch up with this gig seeing as the Brum one sold out before I got my ticket. But it all depends on my knee, and at the current rate of progress, it looks like I can virtually write this year off :(

Finland do it again!

Andy Abraham the X-Factor runner up, has been announced as the UK’s entry for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest after winning a live public vote on BBC One. I didn’t watch the show but after seeing his rehashed 70’s disco number on the BBC News site, it looks like another great year for a long list of nil points.

But we can still hold out hope for something resembling music as Finland has once again entered a metal band into the cobweb ridden cheese fest that is Eurovision. A video of 80’s throwbacks TERÄSBETONI performing “Missä miehet ratsastaa” on Finnish TV can be viewed below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgOxYaNMIeU

So will metal win again repeating the success of Lordi? Will puppet Dustin the Turkey win it for Ireland? Or will it be an eastern European band singing la lala la la?

Why is it we always chose to send dated cheese laden crap to this event? Who narrows the entry’s down to the 5 or 6 that the British public get to choose from?

I say we send Cradle Of Filth just to make a UK entry interesting :)
